User Guide: Fruit Smasher, 2024

Photographs of family, colored pencil, paint marker, white out on architectural blueprint

In the “Fruit Smasher” works, the skins of three people in a family are photographed, cut up and re-combined to decorate the surface of a tool that can be used to smash ripe fruit. In the collage process, the individuals of a family become a literal unit. The final form is a lumpy and simplistic object, only capable of blunt action. The user guide underlines the object’s futility and aggression in the language, which includes “Fruit Smasher/ Makes Mush/ Ergonomic Handle/ Strangle Grips for / Fewer Cramps/ Needles.”
